Understanding Mental Action Verbs | Thinking Verbs | This video connects the abstract concept of the mental action verb to students’ prior knowledge of physical action verbs. It defines these verbs as actions that you cannot see or hear, but actions that happen in a person’s brain. Supported practice is provided through a series of steps that involve identifying the nouns first, and then finding the mental action taking place. This video series strives to connect all new concepts to prior knowledge, supporting spoken and written language with real life scenarios. The goal of this video is to reinforce the relationship between nouns and verbs, while introducing an abstract concept supported by visual imagery and audio instructional support. I’ve created an entire series of teaching videos to explain the components of English Language Arts in a way that connects them to each other and to real world reading, speaking, and writing.
