Today’s Live Stream – Hotel Services, Indonesia, Shopping (review from live stream #65), Collocation – appreciate, Listening Activity (asking for advice) and the Present Perfect Progressive Verb Tense. Hotel Services – we will practice with flashcards. Activities we do. Need (someone’s help) vs Looking for (use of hotel services). We will talk about Indonesia by doing matching and dictation activities. Collocation – Appreciate (verb). We will talk about words that go with appreciate. For example: (recognize good qualities) really /truly / fully / properly appreciate. For example: I especially appreciate the hard work you did yesterday. (be grateful) deeply / genuinely / greatly / highly / really / sincerely / totally appreciate. For example: I do sincerely appreciate your support. Plus much more. Shopping. We will practice shops: chocolate shop, clothes store, electronics store, leather goods store, shoe store, stationary shop and tailor. Mark will ask you a question – Where would you go to buy…? (a box of chocolates, a camera, a pair of jeans, a pair of sneakers, a pen case, a suit, a table lamp, a wallet). We will also talk about good points and bad points about places around town, asking for suggestions, making suggestions and responding to suggestions. We will do a listening activity – asking for advice. Sue – I want to get a new computer. Could you give me some advice? Joe – If I were you, I’d get a MacBook computer. Sue – What’s a MacBook? Joe – It’s an Apple laptop computer. They are expensive, but they are easy to use and you get great customer support. Sue – I don’t have much money to spend. Any other ideas? Joe – Well, Dell Computers are good and they’re not expensive. I’ve had one before and I was happy with it. Sue – Thanks Joe. I’ll look into Dell Computers. We will practice the Present Perfect Progressive Verb Tense – we use the present perfect progressive tense when action began in the past and has just stopped. Emphasis is length of time of an action.
